The much awaited HHNRumors 2012 shirts are now available over at the ParkRumors Store. The shirts are a new design this year and were done by PixelB.us. Once The Walking Dead was announced we decided to go with a zombie theme, it was originally drawn on a whiteboard and then it progressed into the end result. The gray part of the shirt does glow in the dark! The shirts are $20 shipped in the USA and $25 international. Act now, shirts are only available for a limited time!

Well, this is going to be a fun post!

HHNRumors started as a small blog that I used to keep track of the latest HHN gossip. With the help of many it has somehow turned into one of the leading HHN news sites :-P (No complaints there). As I'm sure many of you have noticed, the HHNRumors blog has been pretty silent as of late. We aren't gone! We've just been heavily working on our new project, ParkRumors.com.

I went from tirelessly googling and searching various government sources to eventually searching my own forum for the latest HHN news! The forums have become a tremendous asset to the HHN community and have played a huge part in HHNRumors' success.

So what does ParkRumors.com have to do with HHNRumors.com?

In short, everything! While searching those government sites for HHN stuff, I often passed up scoops on stories that were quite awesome and didn't really fit the theme of HHNRumors. Sometimes they'd get posted on the front page (Project 722) and other times I'd pass them off to other websites. With haunt season just a few months out of the year and a site themed to only one event, how was I to expand?

So how does this change things at HHNRumors?

The forums will remain as is! The blog will/has moved to ParkRumors.com so you can get all the latest news one website! Don't want to read all that other crap?!? Then skip it and go directly to the HHN section of ParkRumors - http://parkrumors.com/category/hhn/ we will still carry all of the latest HHN news, trust me!

But I want a forum for everything, not just HHN!

Perfect! ParkRumors.com has just opened their forum, it covers much more! It has new staff and even has "The Economy" to keep things honest. Don't get it? Go check it out!

Will I still be able to get a HHNRumors shirt?

Yes and no. ParkRumors will (soon) have a shirt which can be purchased year round and will feature a seasonal HHN shirt. (Also, I hear they are doing a HHNRumors shirt giveaway this week)

Project 722 + Internet Research = JAWS Replacement

On December 19th, 2011, Universal Orlando filed a new demolition permit (DEM2011-00109) with the City of Orlando. The permit's description reads: "Project 722 - demolition of single attraction with several components". This permit is very likely for the demolition of the Jaws ride, which was recently announced to be closing on January 2nd, 2012. Now, what's Project 722, you ask? A quick google search for "Project 722" +Universal and "Project 722" "Harry Potter" reveals several LinkedIn profiles listing "Project 722" as their current project, and they all have one very interesting thing in common:

As you can see, all four of these people have worked on at least one of the Harry Potter films, and one of them even worked on "Project Strongarm", which was the code name for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure. It would only seem logical, given the people involved and their previous work, that project 722 is also Harry Potter related.

So, with the above evidence, and assuming Universal doesn't plan on announcing the closure and removal of another one of their attractions before year's end, I think it's a pretty safe bet that Project 722 = Harry Potter expansion = the Jaws replacement. Now let the speculation begin on what 722 stands for! My guess? The number 722 could be a reference to the high security vaults in Gringotts Bank (all vaults 700+ were high security, were they not?)

By now you have probably heard the sad news floating around. JAWS will be closing at Universal Studios Orlando. Details are still hard to find at the moment but the real question is: How will this impact HHN? For those who are familiar with the event, the JAWS extended queue has been home to many HHN haunted houses.

CALENDAR ALERT: “KING OF HALLOWEEN” POLL OPENS FOR VOTING OCTOBER 31

October 30, 2011 (Orlando, FL) – The first poll in 2011’s string of “Thrill Weekly Polls” will kick off in
just a few hours as Halloween approaches. Fans across the nation will have the opportunity to vote
for their favorite Halloween event of 2011 beginning on October 31, 2011 at 12:01am.

The “King of Halloween” poll will be open 24 hours a day through November 6, 2011 at 11:59pm.
Fans will be able to vote once per day in each poll. We highly encourage each and every park that is
nominated in each poll to let their fans know so they can vote.

HHN 21 Parade Rumors?

Well this is an odd rumor going around... a new show has been rumored for HHN21. That isn't the odd part. Given the fact that Brian Brushwood isn't coming back and Rocky Horror has been done multiple times, it only seems fitting to have a new show. What the new show will include is beyond me. The next part of the rumor is the kicker. The show will have a small processional leading up to the show. (A Parade of sorts?)

As mentioned many times before, there is literally no where to put a parade during HHN. The streets are jam packed and already difficult to walk through. However, I could see an extremely small processional taking place. So no, it won't be the next "Festival of the Dead" but it's a good start!

The Thing Rumor

The latest rumor involves "The Thing" - I've had many people say they have seen an actual helicopter being placed into one of the soundstages and as far as everyone knows, it could only match "The Thing" - unlike rumors in the past with "blurry cam" photos and ultra zoom shots, it's hard to mistake a helicopter, so I'd count on it. This seems to be on par with the detail we've come to expect from the top notch A&D crew.

Thoughts on the HHN Website Update

For those hiding under a rock, the HHN website updated yesterday. Also thanks to everyone who sent this in!

So now what? Time to dig into the new site! As many have learned from past websites, it can be decompiled and broken down to show hidden things. That isn't what this is about, I'm writing a review! Well, sorta. I'm writing about a particular experience that can be given to a new user.

The game, which can be found here: http://hhn21game.com, has the same graphic appeal as past HHN websites. It's not the most flashy but it definitely reminds me of the 2007 site. Lets start from the beginning, you are given the option to "Step In" or "Turn Back". It displays some doors and a chair, my first thought was "this doesn't look like a casino." So what is it? Why am I given this option?

So obviously, you "Step In." Now we get to see what is inside... Wait, we are being forced to sign up/log in. Oh, it has facebook, this will be quick! Wrong, this has been reported broken. Let me try an email address that contains a "_" (ex:chad_b@spam.com) Denied. Guess I'll have to go create another email. Most would give up right here, but luckily I have other emails to try and I really want in the site. So finally I'm signed up and logged in.

We are finally logged in to the site! We are brought to a platter with 3 cards. Random cards at that. We are also given 90 tokens. I find it odd that we aren't dealing in chips, but tokens will work. Without instructions, we pick a card. Oh joy, the phantom card. I'm already down 30 tokens. With 2 cards remaining and 60 tokens left, lets take another chance.(click)

Blue-Ray is the name of the game we are brought to. It shows 3 tombstones (not the pizza) and you are given 1 chance to pick the correct tombstone. To be fair, I'll pretend I haven't played this before. I click the middle one. I'm out 30 more tokens.

Well that sucks! I haven't even seen anything good yet and I'm down to 30 tokens! Well, lets pick another card and try again. Are you freakin kidding me?!? Another phantom card?!? It gets worse? I'm banished for an hour?!?

Forget it, it was a hassle just to get where I was and I'm on a tight schedule at work with only a 15 minute break. Guess I won't be playing the games.

So maybe I was a little dramatic, but that is a 100% possible scenario on the current version of the website. It appears that these games of chance are geared so that the house always wins (Big surprise there) but has this concept ruined the experience that the website has always given us in the past? Some say yes, some say no. Others have 15 accounts on the website just so they can play the games. What's your take? Sound off in the comments.

Commercial and Media Site Rumors

In the last few days I've had more rumors come in about the commercial than ever before. But first things first, where is the 2011 HHN media site? Has Universal completely shifted away from this concept? Their new twitter account (@UORHHN) might seem to think so. With 50 days till the event, it seems less likely that we'll be getting a media site dedicated to HHN. I say this because social media has taken over most of what we were seeing on the media site in years past. They can still post official releases on their current media site... Here's to hoping for an awesome main site!

In other news, HHN commerical! These are simply rumors that must have come from a friend of a friend of a friends mothers hair-dresser, but news is news. We are told that the "icon" in the commercial is a lady and that she is a redhead. Some go as far as calling her "Lady Luck." It's purely speculation but at this point I agree with it. They also mention a wheel of (mis)fortune with a victim strapped to it. Its unclear what happens next but I'd assume he's out of luck (see what I did there?). If the commercial is released like it was last year, it'll show up in movie theaters first (or Ellen). So be sure to catch the previews toward the end of the month!

"The Thing" is creeping its way into Universal's theme parks in time for Halloween.

The upcoming thriller will be adapted as a maze for the company's Halloween Horror Nights event at both the Hollywood and Orlando parks.

Although both parks feature Horror Nights, they typically don't share the same mazes. But "The Thing" is one of Universal's higher-profile releases this fall, and the studio has been increasingly eyeing the Horror Nights franchise as a way to promote its thrillers that bow around Halloween, considering the crowds it draws each year.

Halloween Horror Nights begins Sept. 23 and continues on select nights through Oct. 31.

"The Thing" bows Oct. 14.

U had been considering a maze or promo for its update on "The Wolfman," but opted not to when the film's release date shifted from fall 2009 to February 2010.

"The Thing" is a reboot of Roger Corman's 1982 original, in which a group of researchers in an abandoned scientific research facility in Antarctica find themselves infected by an alien creature that can transform itself into an exact replica of any living being.

Theme park designers partnered with the film's producers, Strike Entertainment's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman to replicate the sets, audio, musical score, creature and characters referenced in the new pic.

With the recent update to the HHN website, not much more was given than a partial reveal of the theme. However, the meta description in the code of the website did mention "Live Shows." We know B&T will be returning but what else will there be?

HHN being in the 21st year, the current theme , and Brian Brushwood's calendar blocked out for an amusement park event you'd assume it couldn't get any easier to figure out. I emailed Brian yet again to make sure he wasn't holding out any information and to see if he was able to comment.

Brian responded that although he loves working HHN he's unfortunately not returning this year. Sadface.

So the question remains. What show(s) will take place this year?

According to what appears to be an official press release given to OnlineFlorida.co.uk, we can confirm 25 nights for this year's event. The dates are posted below. The release also notes the name of the event as Halloween Horror Nights XXI.

Finally some news! The first audition date for Halloween Horror Nights 21 has been set! Mark your calendars for July 12, 2011! It looks like it's going to be a little different this year. It appears that you've got to schedule an appointment with Universal to audition. It's most likely due to the overwhelming amount of applicants in the years past. More Construction!

Our resident construction photographer and new forum moderator, Cavalry, has done it again! Today he brought us the latest construction update! In his forum post he mentions that Disaster's extended queue has now been blocked off and that the privacy curtains have been put up. He also noted some wall type structures that were put up to obstruct view.

While he was over by JAWS he was able to watch them put up a few walls where he normally takes construction photos. Not the most exciting thing, but its always fun to see the construction.

He was also able to spot the esqueleto muerte poles next to the sprung 2 facade. Although they were there, it doesn't necessarily mean they will be used.

Apparently he was there at the right time because he also was able to catch a glimpse of the parade building facade that was being moved indoors. Unfortunately the trees blocked the pics.

The Sprung tents have started some outside facade construction that is visible from the public areas. However it looks like the facade has moved to where the exit normally is. Other images of the JAWS queue were also posted, not much is going on but they have put up the privacy curtains.

Those who know me and have followed this site since the beginning (before rumors) know a thing or two about permits. What some may not know is the history.

In 2008, Universal posted the permits to the City of Orlando's permitting office as they did any other year. These permits contained the house's theme/name. The"potter law" wasn't in place and any "Average Joe" could view the parcel and find the house names for the year, except no one seemed to take the time to do so or cared to do so (that I know of anyways). Well, I did just that, I found the list, posted it online and thought it was the coolest thing (and it was). I took it one step further, I went down to city hall and actually viewed the blueprints and took pictures of them with my phone MONTHS before the event. I thought for sure this method was golden. After all, it's public record.

Keep in mind, this was my first year investigating the details of the event. Little did I know how active Art & Design and Universal employees were about checking the forums to see what leaked. (I apologize to anyone who was using this method before 2008)

Fast forward to 2009, months before the event, April to be exact, right before the permits normally hit the web, a little law was passed (Read here) to keep blueprints for theme parks confidential. While I don't feel entirely to blame, this sure fire method was now trash. With Potter right around the corner, it's totally understandable why they'd want this method to die. That being said, the 2009 permits hit the web. Since it was a relatively new law, the employees weren't exactly sure what to say/do and I managed to squeeze code names out of them. Although these were in fact the actual working code names for the houses, this was when I knew that the public permits were useless. Universal is required to file a permit for each house, no one said they had to name them on the permits. The code names may have been there as a test to see what leaks or to throw us off, either way this was the last time this method was actually useful.

So now what do you do? You have a list of code names.... well, use that list plus all of the other "leaks" that get out and you have a good idea of what might be happening that year. Luckily for us some key stuff leaked and we were able to figure out the majority of the event. Great, so that was 2009....

2010 permits come around, I call up the permitting office again and speak with the same guy as the year before, Alex, in hopes of getting SOMETHING out of him. He wouldn't budge and I kinda felt bad trying to get any information from him. As it turns out the permits are now cryptic anyways. Uni did a great job and only one of the code names leak out, "zap", how the heck were we supposed to figure that out? We weren't, but! We later found out it meant awesomeness. In 2010, the best we got out of the permits were a couple of scene names and house locations. So what is Universal to do? Universal takes note that the scene names were capable or leaking. Lets guess what happens next...

Today - Permits come out, we gather the locations of the houses which haven't changed in years (legally, they have to put the house locations - next up is aliases for these locations) and I'm willing to bet that the scenes are now labeled as "Scene 1, 2, 3... " thus completely killing this method for information (as it should have been in 2009 when the law passed in the first place)

So as some are excited, it's sort of a moot point with me. This once great method has turned into a waste of time. Construction has already started, if some scene names leak out, great, however I'd take it with a grain of salt. There are new sources upon us, closely guarded but equally great. Get out there and find them :-) (Legally of course)

Universal Mini Golf Update

As you may have read on http://themeparkinsider.com Universal is going to be adding a Mini Golf Course to City Walk. I decided against posting about this since it's (yet again) not HHN related. However, things changed when I saw that hole 18 is supposedly "Haunted House" themed. Granted, it is a mini golf course and I can't imagine how "haunted" this particular hole can be. Especially considering hole 16 is to have a "Green House" theme.

While this isn't exactly HHN related, it was too big to pass up. This rumor has been in the works for longgggg time. It appears that we finally have concrete evidence that Universal wants another water park! A trademark has finally made it through the US Patent and Trademark Office for the name "Wondersea Island" - although I'm not 100% for the name, it's not the worst thing that could happen.However, don't let this fool you, names change regardless of how set in stone you might think they are (cheetaka anyone?)

Since I cannot direct link the official website of the trademark office, I'll link this alternative site that has the same data (link) - The bigger question here is where the heck will this thing go?

While this is 100% unofficial. It appears that the Bizarre Magic of Brian Brushwood will be returning to HHN once again. This doesn't come as a surprise due to the amount of popularity the show received last year. The crowd turn out rivaled that of Bill and Ted. While it doesn't say what amusement park is he performing at, the dates line up with the typical HHN nights (give or take a Wednesday)

My Monster

Its all about location

Rumors have started circulating that the event will once again take place at the studios this year. While this doesn't come as a surprise for most, it's a good start for a good year. Many will argue that the event will never return to the islands, however they also have their reasons why they'd like it to return.

In other news, there has also been speculation about some new team members working with A&D on this year's event. Two of which come directly from Universal Hollywood. Although it cannot be confirmed at this point, its worth noting.

Lastly, there is a rumor going around that the soundstages used this year will be different from last. This is due in part to some clients who will be using a soundstage from August through September. Yet again, cannot be confirmed at this point but should be taken in consideration during speculation :-)

Oh man, it has been a nice break! Now to the good and bad news, the break is over! Just around the corner is HHN XXI. You will start to see some more action here on the front page as the rumors surface (Wooo!) - Remember people, its only February!

I know it's not a "rumor" but Universal put out a new HHN survey a few days ago (and I also know how they feel about people posting about them) so I didn't really cover it. However you'll find more info about it within the forum discussions. Look in the normal places to find the link.

Some other big news! For those who haven't noticed, HorrorNightNightmares.com took the time to pick up where the vault left off! Congrats guys! I even found an awesome picture of myself and (some of) the HNN staff on their home page! (Good Times)

HHN Review Update – The Shows and Unmasking the Horror

At the time of writing my original review, I did not feel comfortable reviewing the Brian Brushwood show, as I had only seen Menace once and had not seen Malice at all. I have now seen each of his two performances several times, and feel they need some coverage. I also wanted to update my review on Bill and Ted, since the show has gone through many changes by now.

Menace

The first of the two Brian Brushwood performances is called Menace. If you've seen Brian perform at HHN in past years, this half of the show will probably be familiar to you. He opens the show with an incredible fire-eating performance. I'm a bit of a pyro, so I absolutely love this part. He then invites a male volunteer up to the stage for something he swore he'd never do as a magician, a card trick. Its your classic identify a card, destroy the card, find the card - with a twist. With a bit of blood and a somewhat adult surprise at the end, its a very suitable trick for HHN. To open his third trick, Brian laments that his particular brand of magic and comedy does not translate well for children's birthday parties. He feels he is missing out on significant income because of this, so he created Mr. Happy Pants, the kid-friendly hand puppet. Or is he? Actually, he's more of a demon-possessed hand puppet, who Shwood stabs through the chest (and incidentally his own hand) with a very large needle. I don't know about you, but I'd love to have Mr. Happy Pants at my kid's birthday party :-) For his fourth and final trick, he asks the audience to get out their cell phones, specifically their cell phone cameras, to see a cool ghost illusion. I like this because it lets the entire audience participate in the trick. I won't give away the surprise ending, but it definitely made me jump the first time I saw it.

Malice

On the flip side, is Brian's other show, Malice. This show is new for HHN, and while these tricks have been around for ages (as opposed to the all-Shwood-original tricks in Menace) they are amazing physical feats that impress me no matter how many times I watch the show. He begins with a trick that dates back to the 1800's. If you listen carefully, Brian tells you where he found this trick. I did some research and was able to find the exact book he references (it wasn't easy). I can assure you, everything he says about the origins of this trick is completely true. He then proceeds to pass a small nail from his right eye to his left eye. He returns the nail to his right eye, and passes through his sinuses into his mouth, all while an audience volunteer describes the process (again with the licking!). His second trick, he likes to call the Human Crazy Straw. The name explains it all. He mixes an awful concoction of water, milk, orange juice and beer, then wraps a long tube around his body, finishing by pushing the tube up his nose and out his mouth (I love the face he makes before he does this). He strikes a graceful pose and you watch as the vile liquid passes through the straw, spouts out through his mouth, and empties perfectly into an awaiting glass. After unwinding himself, Brian takes a sip of the foul mixture, and we applaud for Scott who has to clean the whole mess up. Poor Scott. The third trick is one of my favorites, the bed of nails. Not only does Brian lay on the bed of nail shirtless (woo-hoo!) after demonstrating the dangers on an unfortunate apple, but he also invites two female volunteers up on stage to stand on him (you may applaud now!). I hold my breath every time, terrified something will go horribly wrong. Brian closes the show with a straight jacket escape, beating even Houdini's record by escaping from the straight jacket in under two minutes. After two large male volunteers verify its not a trick jacket, and strap him in very tight (you bastards!) Brian begins his escape while the audience counts him down.

After every performance, Brian waits out front to meet his fans (and he hopes each and every one of you will stop by to say hey). As exhausted as he must be, it never shows. He is always willing to pose for pictures and sign autographs, even to take off his shirt and let you see the small dimples still impressed into his back from the bed of nails. So stop by and check out the shows, you won't be disappointed!

Bill and Ted

The Bill and Ted show has come a loooong way since EP. If you hadn't seen one of its earlier incarnations, you might be perplexed as to why there was so much negativity to begin with. One of the things I am really enjoying, is all of the improv lines. I literally have not seen the same show twice, there is always a joke or two they are testing out. Some of them have stuck, some have not. I also have to show some love to an actor whose name I sadly do not know. You may recognize him as last year's John Connor, and I'm told he also plays the security guard in this year's HHN/Coke Zero commercial. He has done an “excellent” job seamlessly filling in for many of the male actors on their nights off this year. I've seen him in at least 3 different roles, and he's never missed a line, or a beat.

And so, although it means the end of this year's Halloween Horror Nights event, I am eagerly waiting to see what they have in store for us in the final performance on Halloween night.

Unmasking the Horror Tour

I had the opportunity to go on the Unmasking the Horror tour on Sunday afternoon, and I really enjoyed it. After a brief review (not as brief as Chad would have liked) of the past 20 years of the event, including back stories of all the icons and mascots, our tour began. The tour includes a lights-on walkthrough of the three soundstage houses, Legendary Truth, Hades and Psychoscareapy. I loved walking through with the lights on because for me, the amazing amount of detail that goes into each house is what I go for. You don't get that when you're going through the conga line in the dark. We stopped in each room of the three houses as the tour guides shared stories and various bits information about the rooms. We had several minutes in each spot to look around and take it all in. We were also allowed to explore the many passages the scareactors can utilize to watch people as they walk through the house, and to jump out and scare them. While most of the information shared by the tour guides were things we already knew or had speculated on, I was able to confirm that “a” lantern (not necessarily the HHN XX lantern) is hidden in each house, and found them in two of the three we walked through. It was also confirmed that an icon is hidden in each house, some overtly (like Jack in Scareapy or the Storyteller in Legendary Truth) while others are merely hinted at, and one is yet to have been found, at least according the the tour guides. If I have the chance, will I do the tour again in years to come? Absolutely!

Some may or may not know my wife, but she is just as big of a HHN fan as I am. In years past, she has written reviews of the event, just never had a good place to post them. That has obviously changed, I give you Kelly's HHNXX Review:

Horror Nights: The Hallow'd Past

So far this is my favorite house. I'm fairly new to HHN, 18 was my first year, so I obviously don't get as much out of this house as many of you will, but I definitely appreciate the fine details and the history. I was a little disappointed that there were no scares in the first room, but knowing that, I can now really look around at the displays in this area. Also, this house is much longer than most, so you definitely still get the scares. Even on my third time through I was amazed as I turned through room after room, expecting to see and exit around the next corner, but finding yet another room.

Catacombs: Black Death Rising

I have to admit, I was not impressed on my first run through this house. Bored, even. I just kept thinking, “what the heck are these bird-things, and why are they supposed to be scary?”. I felt a vague sense of familiarity, and Chad nailed it on the head when he said Spy vs Spy. After learning that those “bird-things” are actually doctors, and the “beak” of the mask would be filled with flowers to hide the stench of rotting flesh (which you will get to experience). I didn't notice the few “infected” scareactors until my second time through. The house could be greatly improved by playing up the sick and dying and decreasing the amount of doctors, or even by adding some gruesome doctor/patient scenes. Medical technology was pretty gruesome back then.

Havoc: Dogs of War

This is the house that I would have wanted to be cast in. I would love to have an excuse to shave my head! This house is high energy and intense. I was a little disappointed that they didn't seem to change the floor plan much from last year's Spawning house. I felt as if I could walk through blindfolded and not miss a turn. But the layout is where the similarities end. The house is really pretty great, and it makes my short list.

Orfanage: Ashes to Ashes

My spell-check dislikes the way the name of this house is spelled as much as I do. But thats really the only complaint I can make. I don't know the whole Cindy back story, but this house is definitely in my top 3. This is a great house for the often troubled Jaws queue. From the minute you enter you really feel like you're in a burning building. The air is noticeably warmer inside, and the fog hangs in the air like smoke, rather than staying low to the ground as it does in other areas of the park. The walls are perfectly charred, and there are burnt wall and ceiling beams falling down all around. My favorite room (aside from the hallway with the open flame) is the nursery. I'm definitely getting some good ideas for the baby's room...

Zombiegeddon

This house is zombies done right. There are about a million ways Uni could have screwed up this concept, but it came out perfectly. And giving Scott (Howard in scene 1) a speaking role was pure genius! Overall, a great house, not much more to say. Oh, and I love that you leave the house and walk right into the Zombie Gras scare zone, a nice touch which hopefully Uni will incorporate in years to come.

Legendary Truth: The Wyandot Estate

Again, I haven't really followed the whole LT thing, but I still really enjoy this house. Not to repeat my Zombiegeddon review, but this house is a ghost house done right. It could have been really cheesy, but its actually pretty tasteful. My favorite part is the ghost under the floor. I don't know why, but I get almost giddy when I watch him slide by beneath me. I also love then the seemingly opaque wall goes translucent as another ghost flies by. I still haven't figured out the obsession with “bed girl”, but apparently everyone loves her. Really looking forward to the changes to come in this house.

Psychoscareapy: Echoes of Shadybrook

I'm particularly drawn to this house, partly because of my background in psychology, and partly because I should probably be institutionalized myself (just ask Chad – I'm certifiable). This house does what it says... puts you in a forgotten mental hospital with forgotten mental patients on the loose.

Hades: The Gates of Ruin

This house makes me want to brush up on my Greek mythology. Its certainly not necessary to enjoy this house, but it would be cool to have a better idea of who is jumping out at me, or squirting me with water guns (I got soaked the last time I walked through). No complaints, just a well done walk through hell.

Bill and Ted

Ahh yes, Bill and Ted 2010. Much has been said about this year's show, and not much has been positive. If you haven't seen it since EP or very early in the event, I strongly suggest you give it another chance. They have been continuing to make changes and improvements. Granted, this should have been taken care of long ago, but they are clearly working on it. The jokes are still the same, as are the characters and storyline, but its a lot cleaner, and they're still watching the audience reaction and working out the kinks. Maybe by the final curtain call we'll have a really great B&T. I can't help but wonder how much Roddy's absence has played a role in the problems we've seen. Maybe?

Overall Event:

I haven't made much mention of the scare zones, and thats because I'm not a fan, in general. For me, they are too cluttered and chaotic. People run around and act like idiots, and I generally avoid them as much as possible. Its not Universal's fault, but I could definitely live without them.

It seems like Uni got a great deal on fog machines/smoke juice because the fog is out of control this year. The already contemptuous scare zones are made that much more dangerous and annoying by an overabundance of thick, blinding fog. It takes away the scare, because you literally can't see your hand in front of your face, let alone the scareactors. Saws N Steam is the worst offender by far.

Fear is lame. 'Nuff said. Wish they would have done more with him.

I do have to applaud Uni on their use of lighting in the houses. Its taken some adjusting, but I think they are finding a happy balance. On EP night the lights were bright. I could see everything, which was awesome, but not necessarily scary. Then on the first official night of the event, they went the opposite direction and made several of the houses so dark I couldn't see a thing. Still not scary. By this past weekend, they seemed to have gotten it down. I could see well enough to figure out where I was going, while there were still enough shadows for the scareactors to duck into and pop out of. Hopefully they'll leave it alone now.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this year's event. If you haven't been yet, you can rest assured you won't be disappointed.

Ghost Hunters Conference Call

Today Universal Orlando gave me the opportunity to sit in on a conference call with “Ghost Hunters” Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango before they appear at Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights XX to meet guests and personally experience the event on Thursday.

For those unfamiliar with "Ghost Hunters", it has become one of the highest rated reality shows on SyFy Channel. The popular show follows Gonsalves, Tango and a group of real-life paranormal researchers as they investigate haunted places across the nation.

However, this is a new era and it's quite possible that we won't be seeing Jack again for a long time. Good and Bad, this was/is likely the correct decision to move forward with a stronger event.

Fear is Real!

First I'd like to thank Universal for giving me the opportunity to film inside of the houses! It's something they have never done before and when they first asked me, I was extremely skeptical. Why?!? Well, given that it's my first time to walk through the houses, it would be a 100% genuine reaction to the scares. That wasn't the problem, the issue was that it was going to be on film for everyone to see! Publicly scared? I wasn't sure what to think about that. I knew I had to get over myself and of course I signed up!

My HHN Exxperience was nothing less than amazing! I was fortunate enough to be able to go through every house and scarezone at least once and even had some time for repeats. For those who don't know much about Employee Preview night (EP), it's only open for a few hours (7:30pm - 11:00pm) and is pretty much a working dress rehearsal/preview for the real deal. If I had to put a percentage on it, I'd say its about 90% of a finished product since there are some kinks to work out here and there and not all of the effects are on. That didn't stop me from enjoying it though.

That being said, on to my review!

Houses

Horror Nights The Hallow'd Past - I cannot say enough about this house. Being a fan of HHN, this house really hit home. You encounter just about everything that you can remember about the event. You'll see the vortex, rat lady, treaks, mirror maze....EVERYTHING. Very good execution for a memorable house. This house was done in a way so that even the "old" stuff fit perfectly in a new house without me ever feeling like "oh, thats random for that to be there." It fit like a glove. It's a good way for guests (old and new) to catch up on the last 20 years.

Catacombs Black Death Rising - This house was very unique. I will say that at first it caught me off guard and I had no idea what had just happened. Then I did some googling about "Black Death" and it made so much more sense to me. It's likely because I'm 22 and never really learned too much about it in school. However, once it clicked, I was amazed and can't wait to give it another shot. The detail in this house was spot on. There is a good amount of "beaked" scareactors in this house and it really confused me. Their costumes/masks reminded me of the "spy vs spy" cartoon. It wasn't until I started googling it that I figured out what the beaked masks were for. Apparently the doctors would fill the cone of the beak with flowers so that they wouldn't have to smell the stench of death. This house was clearly a "The More You Know" Public Service Announcement in disguise. I'll need to go through this house again before I can really review it.
HAVOC Dogs of War - Talk about intense! This house was loud and crazy. Even from the start the concrete facade had lasers scanning the queue and the house was filled with strobes and all sorts of effects lighting. You come face to face with the "Dogs of War". They were bald and mutated with more energy than a power plant. They were raging bio-hazard killing machines. Also you will also find quite a few easter eggs in this house (There were some familiar names plastered all over the walls in this house) Lots of potential and I also suggest you read up on "Dogs of War" to really understand this house.
The Orfanage Ashes to Ashes - Finally Cindy gets her 15 minutes! This house was creepy. Something about children being loose and wearing masks while singing songs in the dark is extremely creepy. One thing that really stood out in this house is that is the first to use an open flame! While it wasn't anything like the massive fireball in the lagoon, it fit very well in the house and you definitely feel the heat. Most of the scares were resetting for me, but I did catch Cindy in the last scene. I did enjoy seeing the old Skool masks in this house.
Zombiegeddon - Zombies!!! I really enjoyed this house. From the beginning to the end, it was fluid. First you get instructions from a guy named Howard, he lets you know about the various stages of the zombies (thankfully they are color coded with lights) and he tells you how to fight them off, I specifically remember to make sure to shoot them in the head. I would like to note that this was the best possible role for Scott (Invader_Butters on the forum). This house was lots of fun, went back for seconds.
Hades The Gates of Ruin - I love sound stage houses. They really get to show off their creative skills when it comes to building these houses. The facade for this house was incredible. It didn't stop there! Everything was detailed! The costumes were amazing. This was another one of the houses where I missed most if not all of the scares. However I did see some awesome scares go to the poor kids in front of me. Lots of potential here but I'm going to give it another go around before I give a review.
PsychoScareapy Echoes of Shadybrook - In my opinion this is my favorite HHN franchise. The PsychoScareapy houses have always been fun and provided me with many laughs. This rendition was the complete opposite. This isn't the Shadybrook we've seen in the past, although the facade is back, its much gloomier. This house was dark and I'm not talking about the lighting (although it was rather dark too). Just to give you an idea, I think I saw an inmate with an egg beater in her eye. Creeeeeepy.
Legendary Truth The Wyandot Estate - This was quite possibly the house I anticipated the most. The facade really stole the show. It seriously looks like they built a two story house inside the sound stage. One thing is for certain, you will be immersed. Normally I'd say that ghost themed haunts don't typically go the correct route and are usually quite lackluster. This on the other hand was far from that. Lots of new techniques and advanced scares in this house. Not the same old mirror tricks, this house takes it to the next level. I'm all for moving forward.

HHN XX Map and Construction Pix

Today I was able to make it over to Universal to see the construction first hand. I also made sure to go to guest services to snag a HHN XX event map. The format for this map wasn't like any other park map I've received. For starters, it wasn't folded or anything, it was just a front and back piece of paper. It reminded me of the Employee Preview maps (Which were actually in black and white photocopies last year). I made sure to scan it in so we could have a nice high resolution version of the map.

I also took 51 pictures from around the park showing off the latest construction of the new front arch screen as well as the updated "XX" in front of Mel's/Central Park. Those can be seen here: http://img14.imageshack.us/g/dscn1191hs.jpg/

HHN Warehouse Exxperience

How to win the mini games:

Chaos:

I'd say this one is pretty self explanitory. Just match them up as seen in the picture (plus the last one).

Death:

Wait until the ghost is directly in front of the statue as seen in the image above, then snap the pic.

Legend:

This one has been hit or miss. Balancing this boat has been EXTREMELY easy on my computer(s) however I've heard that people have the most difficult time with this. Use your mouse across the entire flash document to balance the sinking ship. I've even kept my mouse perfectly still and won this one with ease. Your mileage may vary.

Sacrifice:

This was a neat game. I personally have a microphone on my computer(s) and it was rather interesting. The goal is to keep a steady beat (sing, unless you are me and can't) and keep the line green throughout the game.I found it easiest to tap on the microphone (or a distance away from the microphone) to keep it in the green. I've also found that my desk fan works wonders for this one. Those without microphones can use their mouse to click and keep it green.

Vengeance:

Arguably the most troublesome to beat. This mini game requires you to turn the crank on the record player (or whatever antique this is). The goal is to keep the meter in the green throughout the entire game. I found that rather than turning the crank full circle, its easier to go up and down with it.

Halloween Horror Nights Commercial

Universal Orlando Resort has revealed the new television commercial for Halloween Horror Nights XX: Twenty Years of Fear.

For the first time ever, Universal Orlando collaborated with horror film directors to create this year’s commercial. Universal worked with Michael and Peter Spierig, best known for directing “Daybreakers,” the 2010 box office hit starring Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill. Other movies directed by the Spierig brothers include “Undead” (2003) and “The Power of the Dark Crystal,” scheduled to be released in 2011.

The commercial features an on-duty security guard patrolling the Universal Orlando prop warehouse who comes face to face with Fear – the master of everything Halloween Horror Nights has ever been and will become. To see the commercial, click HERE.

Well, they came through as promised and the commercial has been posted on the Halloween Horror Nights Media Site (http://media.universalorlando.com/halloween/). They are claiming it's the "World Premiere" for the commercial, however it's the same commercial Ellen showed us last week. I've got mixed feelings about the commercial as it borderlines on being extremely cheezey with little to no scarefactor. One thing I do know for sure is that I'm really looking forward to a face to face with Fear itself.

Well, I cannot vouch for this myself but apparently the HHN commercial has been seen. It was described in an email as follows:

"The Horror Nights commercial is a UO security guard who walks into a warehouse. The lantern is shown engulfed in flames and then a black smokey matter attacks the guard. Logo then a flashlight flickering on the floor. Its being shown in the previews for The Last Exorcism. "

This lines up with what has been sent in earlier this year about the commercial being filmed at a warehouse in Sanford, FL by the Spierig brothers. Hopefully video will follow (just not wise to film ANYTHING in a theater.)

First off, I'd like to say thank you to A&D for allowing me to be a part of the conference call that took place August 26, 2010. I'm honored that I was even considered for the call. I was planning on doing an in depth analysis of the call, but unfortunatley right after the call, I was involved in a car accident that thankfully wasn't my fault. Everyone is fine (including our car, which was odd), but I'm literally stuck in bed. Woooo! This has been a good week so far for updates. Today the Halloween Horror Nights Orlando Media Site has updated and has given us a new video as well as some behind the scenes pictures. Although it has updated, nothing major has been revealed. The end of the new video they have given us tells us that everything will be revealed on August 26, 2010. What time? Who knows, your guess is just as good as mine. I know I'll be hitting F5 all day.

Wow, this is scary. My source who said the main HHN website would be updating today with 5 pictures was absolutely right. Website updates have been the hardest thing to pinpoint since they are always changing the schedule. Hopefully I hear more from this guy.

Legendary Truth has also updated today. This time giving us the images attached in the email from the previous clue. There appears to be something burned into all of the images. Could possibly be some sort of puzzle. So after investigation on the Halloween Horror Nights website hijacking by Legendary Truth. The hijacked page appears to be "loading" however the page is already loaded.... It throws up a series of numbers which aren't in any apparent order with a random "43825" tossed in the middle for good measure. Here are the numbers in their order:

The Environments section on the Halloween Horror Nights XX: Twenty Years of Fear page has finally updated! This update takes you back into some of HHN's most immersive environments. It includes videos and pictures from various years and really serves quite well as an event portfolio. There have been some reports that shortly after the Environments page went live, the Behind The Screams page also went live for a short period of time, however no one thought to save it and it has since been taken down. It was reported to be around 2.4mb - Should be a great update when it finally goes live! If you have any more information on this, please submit it to the anonymous tip line.

Legendary Truth Website Goes Live!

This is an interesting way to integrate Legendary Truth into this years event. Make it look as though they hacked into the Halloween Horror Nights website to alert the general public that Universal has been lying to us the entire time? You make the call, something sounds sketchy to me, but they've clearly got my attention.

For those who are new, like in 2008, we have a case to investigate, and by the looks of it, we will be investigating Art & Design with an apparent leak. Hopefully we'll find the leak before they patch it because currently all we know is that the cake is a lie.

According to numerous tips, Michael Aiello has been caught saying, at the new employee orientations, that about 70% of the roles given out are code names due to message boards and fan sites.

My response - Ouch.

Here is my take on it - Roles we know that will return: Chainsaws.... I wouldn't say that it represents the entire 30% of the non-coded roles, but its a good portion of them. For all we know he could have been clowning around with the new employees in hopes that they wouldn't reveal their role.

Just when I about called it quits with the permits. They bring us one more tidbit of information. It's actually hardly anything at all, but it might trigger some decent speculation so here it is!

Lantern Has Faces NOW

Not saying it didn't have faces before.... but the flames in the flash actually have faces on them. Take a look!

Judging by the flash on the site, this was meant to be decompiled. The faces do appear but you'd never be able to see them otherwise. They know we know how to do this (Legendary Truth 2008 proved this). These faces were clearly placed there for us. They do look familiar too.

HHN Audition - More actors?

The image above was sent in by anonymous. It's an official image from Uni. The significance of this image is the fact that it uses "HHN" over "Halloween Horror Nights" - Could this be a new marketing effort? Not trying to read too far into it but it does look nice and it's still sticking with the Twenty Years of Fear slogan.

The above image was also sent in by anonymous. This image is supposedly from the parade building but we have no way to prove it other than illegally trespassing and verifiying it first hand. I'm not gonna be the one to do that sooo just know that it could simply be fan art. It does resemble a certain Mary Agana in her somewhat controversial attire. Halloween Horror Nights is right around the corner! But unfortunately its not here yet.So I went to the park tonight for the last of the Summer Concert Series. I was able to see Counting Crows thanks to my sweet annual pass :-). They were great as always, however I could hardly pay attention when i knew there was some plywood hidden in some queue lines. So I walked around the park and snapped some pix before the concert began. Nothing too special but I couldn't resist. Sorry for the blur.

Hoooray!!!! Its time for auditions! Ever wanted to work HHN? Well now's your chance! I was asked about the auditioning process by one of my readers and I wrote a rather lengthy reply, so why let it go to waste. Click here for info on auditioning. and read on for my first hand experience auditioning.

John D. asked me for Information about working HHN and the auditioning process, this is my reply:

Well, I can't speak first hand because I've never worked HHN. I did audition last year and they mainly only want people that can work every night. Its a tough gig too I might add. I know a lot of people who have worked the event and they all love the job but they all have their own horror stories. Most include stuff like being punched in the face or being kicked below the belt, but to horror enthusiasts, thats a small price to pay. Keep an eye out on the auditions website, they typically have auditions in coming months.(or now...) You will want to go to the first audition because more positions are available. If you don't get picked the first round, head back the next week. I'd also stress getting to auditions early. If the audition is scheduled at 6pm, plan on getting there around 2pm at the latest. There will be a long line. Also, because of the lovely weather in FL, you will want to bring an umbrella and sunscreen. If you are lucky you can wait in a shaded area. Depending on what time you get there, you might even want to bring a small cooler while you wait in line. Also, because of the nature of the job and the economy, they've been getting some really strange people auditioning (people that will annoy the crap out of you while waiting in line.) so bring something to occupy yourself so that they will leave you alone. You may go as far as bringing a folding chair to wait. You are basically waiting outside on the sidewalk and can park somewhat close to where you wait. Its also easier to audition with a friend so that someone can save your spot in line while nature calls or when its time to pack up and take a trip to the car.

As far as what to expect for the audition? They pretty much hire anyone who fits the body type for the role they are casting, so the audition process is rather short and sweet. Because of the large number of people waiting in line, they assign everyone a numbered sticker. The sticker isn't anything special, but because you are numbered, it makes it easier for them to break the large mass of people into groups. They typically take about 20 people in at a time. You fill out a basic application as if you were to be hired by a fast food joint, name, address, social security and some other basic information such as height and weight, nothing special. They then take your picture and attach it to your application. At this point they sit you in a nice air conditioned room where you fill out another form. This form asks for your availability and some questions as to why you want to work the event. From my understanding they may or may not read any of it other than availability. I think the other questions are only there to keep you busy while you wait in the room. The room usually has a lot of people in it filling out this form. After about 20 minutes someone will pop their head in and call out some numbers. Typically the 20 you were with earlier, but some strays make it too. At this point the group is taken to what appears to be a dance studio with mirrors on all of the walls. There is a table in the front of the room where some familiar faces (Art and Design) sit and look at you. Your group is then split into 4 rows of 5 or similar. They interview one row at a time, one person at a time, in front of everyone from right to left (in my case anyways). The person running the audition then gives you some basic instructions on how the interview will go. When I went they instructed us, when it was our turn, to take a step forward and then state our name and scream at the top of our lungs our favorite movie. Some people get really into it and may startle you, but I stress that you DO NOT TOUCH THE TABLE. Once the row is completed the front row would then move to the back and the 2nd row would then move forward becoming the first. Once everyone has auditioned, you exit the room and wait outside with your group in the hot sun or rain. About 10 minutes later they call out the numbers of people who made it and split your group in two. The people who made it go one way with a leader and the people who didnt make it go another way with a different leader. They are then informed about their status. This is done to somehow make it private, even though its clearly obvious what has happened. In the group of outkastz, they are offered to apply for a job in costuming. Some go on desperately and apply for the position, others are encouraged to audition again next week.

Yes, that was probably a boring read, but hopefully someone finds the info useful. Its most likely not 100% accurate since they change some aspects of the auditioning process at will. Its basically a job interview that you don't have to prepare for so don't stress over it. Also, I wrote that around 1:30am, so don't be too harsh!

Permits are a tricky thing. They have to go through a rather large approval process, when this happens, things are exposed. In this case we were able to get a few scene names for a couple houses. Although it isn't much information, this may be considered a spoiler, so beware!

Some sad news

You may remember in the years past where house names were revealed on the permitting website, or even last year where the code names snuck through the system and onto my website. This year, things are different. We pretty much have Potter to blame for this one. Oh, and that new law that blocks public access to theme park blue prints. I only blame Potter because the (un)friendly people over at the permitting office seem to refer to this as the "Potter Law". Knowing this, I decided to give them a ring on the off chance that I'd get the code names again. Lets just say I was transfered 5 times and spoke with just about everyone who works over there. Even connections that I've used in the past have failed me this year. Can I blame them? No, it's their job to restrict access. On my 5th transfer, I was able to speak with the branch official supervisor President Obama team captain leader of permitting services. He basically gave me the "Sorry dude" speech but then left me with this: "Universal may or may not have provided code names on the application this year. We post what we are given."

No code names?!? That wouldn't surprise me either, ever since the permitting office had become the source of the leaks a new law has been put into place and Universal has switched to using code names (if any) to prevent access.

Although we aren't allowed access to the permits, we were still given the house locations and confirmed 8 houses. I thought for sure we'd have the official park hours before we knew this much information. Oh well, the games have just begun.

RockIt to be open for HHN?

One of the many (speculated) reasons RockIt wasn't open during HHN last year is that parts of the track are directly above some of the sound-stage house queue lines, and this is a safety issue. Today, a permit has popped up online that appears to be for the installation of a safety net. Where the net will go (on the coaster) hasn't been determined yet. RockIt, being the "crowd pleaser" that it is, would easily help clear the streets with a full queue during HHN. With this installation, guests (and team members for that matter) would presumably be able to safely gain access to these areas that were deemed unsafe last year while the ride is in operation. Although the net does make things safer, its not a 100% guarantee that RockIt will be open for HHN.

The calm before the storm

This has been the slowest week for rumors since we opened back in March. This isn't a bad thing though. There has been all sorts of speculation about the event on various forums. One thing that stands out is a clue from JMR himself.

"Everything was planned from the beginning and YOU "reap what you sow"."

That could mean a lot of things but it sticks true to the family tree theme. However, Roddy thinks things have changed since his departure. This could be true, I can't help but remember pretty much every member of A&D saying at one point in time that it takes about 18 months to plan the event. There is no way things could have been 100% changed since then, especially if "Everything was planned from the beginning..."

In other news, things that should be popping up in the next few weeks:

Permits from the City of Orlando (Code names we obtained May 18th last year)
Permits from the Orange County Comptroller (Doesn't ever say much, but its a start)
Official Park Hours (Usually this is our first official information)
Teaser site (typically end of May/early June)

So expect to see this stuff soon. Is it just me or does it seem like they are running behind this year? I guess it's understandable with Potter opening soon. I expect a flood of rumors/confirmed information after the grand opening.

Trees!!!

TREES!!!! They are everywhere, but apparently are involved with HHN? Maybe we are reading too far into this. Maybe not? As you can see, the trees continue to pop up everywhere. I'm by no means to originator of this (not so) crazy concept but this does seem like something A&D would do as a hint. They've done stuff like this before, so I wouldn't put it past them. Speculation has been all over the place. From trees starting with seeds, the very obvious family tree idea and of course The Root of all Evil.

Although this isn't by any means my "exclusive" content - I figured it was worth noting. Credit to whoever discovered the hidden clue! UPDATE: Charles (The real Dr. Raymond Holmes) has taken ownership of this idea

In other news! It looks like I'll be designing/producing shirts this year! Now for the good part! If all goes as planned, the shirts will sell for $10 SHIPPED! So keep an eye out, they could pop up at any time!

Goodness, I feel as though I'm rambling... the latest HHNRumors project (Project Wait4Ever as I like to call it) is nearly completed. For those who don't know about the project, I can't blame you. I made up the project name minutes ago. However, the goal of the project is to bring UNI and IOA wait times to cell phones everywhere via SMS. I'll have you know it's working and currently being field tested! Expect to see that soon too! K I think I'm done rambling, you are free to leave.

T.J. Gives a clue

Attendees to the HAuNTcon event at Uni last night were in for a treat. T.J. was begged and begged about HHN20 information and eventually gave in to announcing 1 clue for the event. Everyone quickly shut up and he said simply this: "arts & crafts move"

What does that mean? It's been speculated to mean pretty much whatever you can think of. Some say it has to do with Jack the Ripper due to the Arts & Crafts movement that happened in England during the Ripper era. Although it doesn't really tell us much, I can't help but to think that T.J. carefully planned his clue and intended to release it if he was begged or not. Its just too strange of a clue to come up with out of no where.

I've also been told that Legendary Truth has been confirmed to return for the event. No word on how that will work for this year. I imagine it will be much more difficult. As of this writing, they still have not renewed the legendarytruth.com domain name. It's set to expire 08/21/2010. I imagine they'll want to renew that. As more information is revealed about LT, I'll look into various solutions for web communication during the event. I can pretty much already guarantee the Google Goggles app will help significantly along with more cell phones being released with a flash. Hooray quality pictures!

A little house keeping

Went to the Entertainment Design Forum held at Mad Cow Theater last night. It was a blast! Pretty much anyone with answers to HHN questions was there. Sadly, for obvious reasons they couldn't talk about HHN 20. According to some tweets, we were able to raise over $5,000 towards cancer research!

In other news! HHNRumors has upgraded servers! Woot! Nothing was ever wrong with the shared hosting plan I had before, but at times it would just randomly go down and I had little to no control over the situation. That has been fixed! HHNRumors is now on Linode VPS and should see very little down time. It also means when September/October comes around, I'll be able to handle the traffic that I hope will be here. I'm stoked about the new server and for those who know me, this is something I've wanted for a while.

Another thing I've been working on, HHNRumors.com shirts! Before I spend any more time designing anything, is there even an interest in one? I've heard all sorts of things, so I'm including a poll.

Well, this rumor really changes things. A lot of it disproves/confirms past rumors. The source wished to remain anonymous (like most) and in this case, I can clearly see why. Here is the tip:

I'll break it down into details as to what I know for sure:

-8 houses, 8 scarezones.
-They are trying to use larger buildings rather than queues because a lot of blueprints had to be altered last year as effects could not operate in queues (due to space issues, safety issues, and regulatory issues).
-There will not be a parade
-Rocky Horror is back
-Bill & Ted will be in T2:3D and will be a 4D show running more frequently, but in shorter length.
-The houses will be anniversary houses of each icon, meaning that the Director will have parts of his year's houses come back (just as an example).
-They will up the intensity this year, particularly in the streets.
-Streets will be more spaced out than last year, and larger. The entrance, not the ticketing area, will be more immersive.
-The screen will come back near the gates, and the area will be decorated
-This year will not have a new icon, but will be focused on that each icon was living in the nearby area and came together to torture all guests.
-Eddie will not come back, nor will Cindy. Maybe will be in Jack's / Caretaker's house, not sure.
-The two remaining houses (6 icon houses) will be original, and multi-storied.
-Each house will have their own scarezone.
-Queue videos are back.

There you have it, possibly the most informative tip i've received. Kinda kills the 10 houses rumor. 8/8 isnt bad either though. Not sad about the parade, and did they say multi-storied houses!?!? Very exciting stuff.

Edit: Not sure how much of this I buy.... would be a cool event but just kinda fishy.

HHN Dates and USF Confirmed

Finally something with meat! Anon has stepped his game up yet again. This time Anon emailed someone at Uni asking for dates/times so that he could book tickets to fly over for the event. I can't blame anon for doing this because in years past we typically have the park hours posted online by now. The bad news, no extra dates. (at least not on this list, so it could change - wouldn't get your hopes up though) But this does confirm the event will only be at USF and not IOA.

I know the last few posts have really sparked quite a debate over at the vault. This should/could clear up the NLC stuff. As stated in the previous tip, anon needed to contact Warner Bros. for info on the big 3. Well, anon contacted someone and they clearly stated that the 3 year deal was false and that the agreement is open ended at Universal's discretion. The statement was worded in such a way to where no real information was given other than the fact that the 3 year agreement was fasle, but it also gave the vibe that they will return! Love it or hate it, the big 3 are in the mix again.

I received a tip from someone who was phishing for information from someone that appears to be a President of a company in New York. They were fishing for info about NLC characters returning to HHN. Here is the tip exactly as it was given to me (except in image form):

As you can see, pretty much everything has been edited to protect the innocent. Where is The Collective when you need them?!? This should be some reunion....

Well, I haven't posted anything in a while. I've actually been googling the interwebz quite a bit lately and haven't found anything worth posting. Thats not what I'm talking about today though. I was chatting with anon on AIM the other day and he suggested I email the owner of the rights to "Bloody Mary". Well, I did and I actually got a response that was quite interesting:

"Contract was up on Nov 1 or 4th 2008 Right after HHN closed for the season that year. They cannot use it for anything anymore until they negotiate with me and my company. I own all rights to the name and many other TM and Registrations (to numerous to list) for Bloody Mary...They did not renew the contract for 2010...Bringing back the icons for their 20th Anniversary has been in the making for 2-3 years now, but they cannot use Bloody Mary without my consent. Or paying me for using her."

So there ya have it. No Bloody Mary at this point in the reunion. I'll keep ya posted.

Ok, so anonymous sent in the supposed house locations a few posts back. Well, anon has done some research and has come back to me with the results. I'm not sure why I haven't thought of doing this myself but kudos to anon. Here is the setup: Anon writes USFPG an email asking about the availability of SS24 for October 2010. Uni writes back saying that SS24 won't be available for the entire month of October. Simple enough, Uni goes on to say that part of SS23 would be available during the month. Leading me to believe that these soundstages will be used for HHN and that Anon may be on to something.

I've gotten quite a few emails, IMs and even text messages from lots of new people who all have rumors to submit to the site. First off, how in the heck did you get my number? Creepy. Here is the run down of what has been coming in. Uni has put out a survey in regards to different levels of express passes for the event. Sadly I see this happening. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, but they love the almighty dollar just as much as the rest of us and you really can't blame them.

I've had a couple readers tell me that the Horror Nightmares house will return. to the point where I needed to comment on it. The Vault has a mysterious power of filling my inbox these days. Here are my thoughts: much like Creatures and the parade, it will probably come back, in one form or another.

I think I'm missing something else! Oh yeah, everyone is wanting me to correct my "debunked" rumors with updates. I'll consider it. :-P

Anon keeps it real - Part IV

Anon is quite a powerful force. This time Anon has sent in the house location for this years event. It only helps contribute to the 10 house rumor that was posted a while back. Here is the breakdown:

This is quite exciting! Now to figure out how the line queues will work. That will be a rather interesting mess of ropes unless some magic happens for the "Themed Queues" rumor.

Naming Conventions

Well, the latest hhn rumor floating around is the house names....well, sorta. Its the house naming convention! Naming convention just sounds funny to me. It makes me think of a South Park type skit, but thats not the point. Here is how i'm told the houses will be named!

Ripped from the Silver Screen: The Maze
Reflections of Fear: The Maze
Carnival of Carnage: The Maze

Now, before people get carried away, these houses haven't been confirmed, but that's the naming convention. The other Doctor, Jimmy, was caught speculating on YouTube about the Festival of the Dead parade and had a great idea. If the parade isn't coming back, what if the Festival of the Dead came back as a house? Just something to think about. As I mentioned on some forum (dont remember which one) I'm with CoCo but against the parade.

Rumors and Updates

I've been working on the site a bit recently. It needed it. You might have noticed a few new pages. The "Add Me" page and the "Chat" page. They are quite obvious as to what they are. Add Me contains some various size banners that can be spammed around the internet. The Chat pages contains well....a chatroom. The chatroom may seem familiar, that's because its the same chat software that HHNVault.com uses. I know most users of that chat software don't particularly like it. I will say that Vault uses version 5 and I use version 6. All of the issues users were experiencing on Vault have been fixed. HHNRumors is now officially on Twitter! So be sure to follow me!

I guess the title says Rumors and Updates.... better include some of those. As I had mentioned previously - Shows would be switched up. Here is the update! I was told that B&T would be getting a queue, a more advanced stage and wouldn't be dumping near any houses. The "Good Doctor" (also known as Charles) had heard a rumor of B&T being moved to T2:3D. Both of these "Rumors" line up. I'd expect to see this happen. So that is the update.

On to the Rumor! This just pretty much goes along with the shows being switched up. Unfortunately this doesn't apply to all shows though. The rumor floating around is that there will be multiple casts for B&T thus allowing them to do shows back to back.

Another rumor is that there will be mini shows and photo opportunities with icons going on throughout the park. Not so much a rumor, but I'll report it.

The Google Factor

Never got around to posting this

You might remember when I released code names last year. There were MANY doubters. It also didn't help that there were fake code names floating around that were based off of nothing. I know this video has been online for a long time now, I just never got around to posting on the topic. The code names that I posted to OutKastz.com on June 9, 2009 were in fact correct and I finally have proof. They can briefly be seen in this behind the scenes video on halloweenhorrornights.com. Although I'd rather have the blueprints as proof, this is better than nothing.

I do realize no one really cares about that, so I'm going to toss in another rumor to keep my readers interested. Uni is going to take Viral Marketing to the extremes this year. Things I've heard include Body Collectors with MySpaces, Vampires with Facebooks, Jack on Twitter, Director with a YouTube channel, random robo-phone calls if your number is in their system. Mostly free marketing that allows Uni to further develop the back stories of the icons so that they all wrap around a 20 year tale of terror. Not exact, but something of the sort.

The Google Factor

The Google factor is as simple as it sounds. Whenever SkyNet/Google brings something interesting to the table, I'll post it. I'm a big fan of Google and these posts serve as proof of its power. Well it looks like Anon has a lot of resources. I was given a link for http://www.orlando-vacationhomerental.com/ that contained HHN 2010 information. So far this information adds up to the info I've been given. It appears that HHN will be open from the end of September and the entire month of October yet it's still quite unclear... I knew I had a rumor for it being open more nights but this is way more than I expected.It also adds some proof to the parade rumor and confirms the return of RHPS.Given that all of this information is true. Could be a stretch.

The "Creatures" rumor has been debunked. The case had become unfrozen for the permitting department to scan the document. I can only hope that these scans become public. Though it doesn't mean anything for us, it does give us hope for digital blueprints being released.

***UPDATE*** - This rumor is false!

I'm not sure what to say about this, I'm just as shocked as everyone else. Apparently permits for "Creatures" in SS22 have returned with a brand new file date. This could mean a lot of things. It might be to throw us off, it might be legit. I'm just as confused as you are.

the first user submitted rumor

This site hasn't even been open a full week and I'm already getting user submitted rumors. I guess that was the original goal of the site but i didn't expect it to happen so quickly. Well here it is plain and simple. It appears that Uni has renewed its trademark for "FESTIVAL OF THE DEAD" on January 6, 2010. This doesn't confirm anything...but why else would they renew this?

There have been some other rumors I thought I'd share. They aren't so much about the event but actually pre-event. As many know, the biggest problem Uni has the last few months before HHN is construction break-ins and people sneaking around backstage where they don't belong. Everyone will tell you its a bad idea, yet it happens every year. From Uni's stand point, its a huge risk as far as safety and insurance and all that crap, but they know its going to happen anyways.

What is Uni to do? They've tried adding extra security and still no success. They tried letting Bill & Ted fill the void by breaking in - was neat, but it still happened. What else can they do? The best idea yet! Construction Tours. This would allow Uni to charge guests who have no patience to go on a hard hat tour through some of the houses. Everyone wins. Uni can then control everything that has hurt them in the past. Its safe, they can control what leaks, and they make a quick buck. I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

Although permits haven't been filed and code names haven't been gathered yet I've been hearing a lot of talk about this being a reunion year.

Rumor status - Confirmed

Of course this is going to be a reunion year. Just how will they go about it? Here is my take - each year was something special, something different that made that year stand out, good or bad. Why not stuff all of that into a house. Granted with 10 houses and 20 years of stuff that could be difficult. I know that a lot of houses were duplicated over the years and a lot were revamped. I'm not sure how they will go about it but it seems possible.

Themed Queues -The most boring and most fun (in some cases) part of HHN, the dreaded queue lines.

Rumor status - Rumor

Uni prides itself on giving its guests the complete atmosphere once they enter the park. It seems all is lost once you step foot into a queue line. How could that be resolved? Put scareactors in the queues and make them themed like the house. (Somewhat like mummy queue, it keeps the atmosphere while you wait)

Open more nights - Not too much of a stretch but still a rumor
Switching up the shows - Rumor

All icons/major characters from the past, thats an easy one. Not only were they teased at HHN19, it just makes sense and its cheap.

More than 8 houses - For HHN19, 2 houses were sponsored by Fangoria. This means Universal has money for 2 extra houses. I put my money on 10 for this year.

Scarezones from the past - Much like the icons, this is an easy move for Universal because all of the props/costumes are sitting in storage ready to be used.

Open more nights - This is a big year for HHN, why not capitalize. They are saving money by reusing props/costumes/ideas/houses? why not spend that money on workers to keep it open more nights. Maximize the use of the money.

Switching up the shows - Because this is a reunion year things could be very different for shows. Some shows might just need a change of venue to accomodate other houses near by.
